TOEIC LESSON

Last night was so annoying. We waited in line for 2 hours to get into the bar. The bouncer carded everyone in our group and I was the only one who forgot to bring ID. All my friends got into the bar and I was forced to go home alone.

TOEIC Vocabulary: Vocabulary for TOEIC Test

Bouncer: A person, usually very big and strong, who works in a bar or night club to protect people. They are in charge of stopping fights and making sure that no one gets hurt. They are also in charge of kicking out or handling any drunk people.

  • That bouncer is huge. I sure wouldn’t want him to get angry with me.

Carded: “Getting carded” means to get asked to see identification for proof of age. In the USA, the legal drinking age is 21 years old. Anyone who looks like they might be younger than that will often get carded. If they don’t show proper ID, they won’t be allowed to enter the bar or buy alcohol in a store. A driver’s license is what people most often show.

  • I’m almost 30 years old. I can’t believe I sometimes still get carded!
  • Make sure you bring your ID. They card everyone at the place we are going.

ID: Identification:

  • A driver’s license is the most common form of ID.
  • You can get a discount if you show them your student ID card.
